With last weeks launch of the new iPhone from Apple, we now have all the flagship handsets for 2016 from the big two.

Apple v Samsung

Putting Samsungs on going battery issues on the Note7 to one side, the current crop of top tier handsets all have their own unique features setting them apart from the others.

Samsung Galaxy Note7:

Launched; March 2016, OS; Android Marshmallow; Homepage.

The Good –

  • Iris & fingerprint scanners for advanced security features.
  • A much improved experience with the S-Pen stylus.
  • Arguably the best screen on the market, you will give others screen envy!

The Bad –

  • Known fault with a small percentage of handsets. Being fixed now.
  • Iris scanning involves holding your handset in an unnatural pose.
  • 12gb of space is lost to the OS giving you only 52gb of the advertised 64gb!

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge:

Launched; August 2016, OS; Android Marshmallow; Homepage.

The Good –

  • Possibly the best looking handset on the market.
  • A great all round rear camera.
  • Expandable memory slot up to 256gb.

The Bad –

  • Hard to justify the extra ££ over the standard S7.
  • Reports in a slight drop in battery performance when using a MicroSD card.
  • There are no Edge specific apps to make use of the great display.

Apple iPhone 7 Plus:

Launched; September 2016, OS; iOS10; Homepage.

The Good –

  • Market leading camera.
  • Water resistant.
  • New dual stereo speakers.

The Bad –

  • Unable to increase storage.
  • Very expensive for top model (£919 for the 256gb version).
  • Still lacks the screen “wow factor” of the Samsungs.

Apple iPhone 7:

Launched; September 2016, OS; iOS10; Homepage.

The Good –

  • Despite it’s upkeep the new Jet Black colour seems popular.
  • Much brighter HD Retina display than the 6S.
  • Pressure sensitive taptic feedback home button.

The Bad –

  • Unable to increase storage.
  • Headphone Jack has been removed from both models.
  • To similar to the 6s, the 7plus shows more progress.
