APP Guide: Winter Sports 2017 – Apps

As the European Ski/Snowboard season for 2017 starts, we review some of this years must have Tech, Luggage and Apps.

Winter Sports Apps for your Smartphone

SkiLynx

If you are away with a group of friends then there is every chance you are all at different skill levels.  This usually means you may go off in smaller groups or stick to certain runs.

SkiLynx aims to fix this problem.  Set your group up before heading out, and let the app do the rest for you.  Using GPS, it will keep track and map each off you within the app.

You can purchase SkiLynx for £2.49 and download on Android | iOS.

Riders – Learn to Snowboard & Ski

If this is your first season out on the slopes, with maybe a few practice days at your local practice centre, then Riders is for you.

The app is packed with over 2500 how to videos, covering a multitude of action sports, but with a big ski and snowboard section.  It covers basic skills right up to advance techniques.

It is a community based app so there are helpful hints and tips left by other users along with pro tips from a long list of action sport athletes.

Download for free on Android | iOS | Windows

On The Snow

The one aspect of winter sports that is out of everyone’s hands is the weather.  It has the ability to make or break your time out on the piste.

On the Snow Ski & Snow report covers 2,000 resorts, providing the latest weather news on each of them. You can set powder alerts and get a notification on expected fresh snow.

Ahead of your travel you can access a network of webcams and read feedback from other app users at your resort.  The app also includes a list of trail maps you can call upon if needed.

On The Snow Ski & Snow is free for download on Android | iOS

GoSnow

More of us are choosing to travel solo these days and with mobile and social platforms making it easier to meet and connect with like minded travellers, it was only a matter of time before this was applied to sports travel.

GoSnow is a social app aimed at helping solo winter sports travellers meet one and other, provide hints & tips on local resorts or carpool between resorts.

The big feature though, is the option to find and book resort employed instructors.  So if you are a beginner or more advanced, you can hire someone who knows the slopes and runs best suited to your skill set and can take you to them, providing local knowledge.

GoSnow is free to download on Android | iOS.

Mammut Packing List

The Mammut app has been designed to help all skill levels prepare for the outdoors. Although the app covers the wider spectrum of outdoor adventure, there is plenty here to help all levels of Skiers & snowboarders pack for a day or more on the mountains.

As with most other apps, social is at it’s core.  You can build a kit list up with your friends and mark items off.  Alternatively, you can complete the basic info/profile and a preset list of kit needed is sent to your device.

You can assign items to certain people in your group and they can tick them off, making everyone in the group aware they have that item covered.

Mammut Packing List app is free, but only on iOS.  While you are viewing Mammut I’d recommend also looking into their Safety 2.0 app also free on iOS.
