Xiaomi 13 Pro
Despite being launched in China at the end of 2022, the Xiaomi 13 Pro and 13 smartphones were given a global launch at MWC 2023, along with a third new handset to the series, the 13 Lite. During the Xiaomi event, the Watch S1 Pro and Buds 4 Pro were also announced.
And although it was a “global” launch, Xiaomi still doesn’t have much of a presence in some major markets, including the US, which is a shame as the 13 Pro handset has all the hallmarks to potentially be one of the best smartphone devices of the year.
Keen mobile photographers will be glad to learn the 13 Pro has been co-engineered with Leica as the two brands share a Strategic Partnership in Imaging Technology to offer a new ‘smartphone photography experience’.
Features //Xiaomi 13 Pro
Aside from the impressive camera set-up, the important news is that Xiaomi has used the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform to power the 13 Pro. This is the same powerhouse processor Samsung uses in its latest flagship handsets and represents a 49% performance boost over the previous 12t Pro handset.
Xiaomi announced storage options of 256GB and 512GB along with the colour choices Ceramic Black & Ceramic White; however, not all combinations will be available in all markets. For example, the only configuration available in the UK is the 256GB model in Ceramic Black.
The screen has also improved from previous generations with a larger 6.73″ WQHD+ AMOLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate, support for Dolby Vision® and only a pinhole front camera to break up its appearance, which is sat neatly into its curved ceramic body. No notch here!
Behind the display is a generous 4,820mAh battery with AdaptiveCharge and 50W wireless turbocharging, and it will have a 120W USB-C hyper charger in the box!
5G, Wi-Fi 7, Dual SIM and Bluetooth 5.3 are all included and will future-proof the 13 Pro from a connectivity point of view for a good few years to come.
With Xiaomi Imaging Engine, Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 feature the strongest computational photography capabilities among all Xiaomi flagships. Not only its photo-capturing speeds are enhanced, but also allowing the devices to automatically focus on certain subjects in motion with Xiaomi ProFocus, further elevating the overall camera experience.

Cameras
At the front, there’s a 32MP in-display Selfie camera, up from 20MP from the previous generation, with support for Night & Portrait modes.
The primary rear camera has a triple-lens Leica system with 50MP Wide, 50MP Telephoto and 50MP Ultra-wide lenses, all housed in a raised square on the back panel. Xiaomi says the 13 Pro offers “a wide range of detailed camera setting options to thrill both shutterbugs and professional photographers”.
To support the hardware, Xiaomi has included many software features in the 13 Pro to help users get the most from the powerful Leica Camera system, including Leica Authentic Look and Leica Vibrant Look.
