A new Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 (2022) was announced at the start of Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), paving the way for the next era of Apple Silicon.

Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 Specifications & Overview (2022)
Unlike the new MacBook Air, also announced during the WWDC, this next iteration of the 13-inch MacBook Pro offers a significant power boost from the M1 to the new M2 chip but little else.
As you can see from the side-by-side below, there’s not much in it, and if you’re lucky enough to be running the M1 13-inch MBP Apple has made it reasonably easy for you to work out if you need an upgrade… you most likely don’t!
Instead, Apple has updated the 13-inch MBP line now that the M2 chip is available and giving any 13-inch MacBook Pro owners who require a new machine the option of getting one with the best technology.
Apple 13-inch MacBook Pro M2// Features
The new M2 chip, Apple says, is 18% fast than the M1 and an impressive 35% more powerful. Big numbers considering the M1 was only released in 2020 and got updated versions in the Pro & Max versions just last year.
Most notably for most users will be the memory bandwidth upgrade which is 50% more compared to the M1, which means the new M2 13-inch MBP model can be configured up to 24GB fast unified memory.
macOS has been designed for Apple silicon, and the combination of macOS Monterey and the powerful new M2 delivers breakthrough performance and productivity for users.
Apple
Same, same, same
Away from the M2 power, the 2022 MacBook Pro is almost identical to the 2020 model; there’s not even room for the new Midnight colour option the 2022 MacBook Air has been graced with. Even the touch bar has somehow managed to keep its place.
The 2022 MBP is the same size and weight as before and shares the same 13.3″ Retina LED-backlit display with a 720p HD FaceTime cam at the top.
As a comparison, the new Air has had a bump to 1080p!
Support for Spatial audio is a welcome addition and, along with the M2 chip, will make this a more desirable option for users working with power-intensive creative apps. Apple is expecting the battery performance to match the M1. Even with the additional power from the M2, there will be around 20 hours between charges, depending on the use.
