At the Let Loose event, the Apple iPad Pro M4 specifications were confirmed: a powerful M4 chip, Ultra Retina XDR display with state-of-the-art tandem OLED technology, a new Pencil Pro, and a versatile Magic Keyboard for ultimate productivity.
Apple iPad Pro M4
Apple’s latest iPad Pro release boasts not one but two significant updates: the first appearance of the M4 chip and a new display technology called tandem OLED. Two new models are available in the Pro M4 series: an 11-inch and a 13-inch tablet.
Built on a 3-nanometer technology, the Apple M4 chip is designed to be super-efficient, making the iPad Pro thinner without compromising on any performance.
Why is this so important for this particular Pro?
During the same launch event, a new iPad Air was released, and a commitment to a low entry price for the base model iPad positioned the Pro as the flagship device—which it always has been. However, the Air is quickly becoming a solid offering, even if it could do with a name change.
The 2024 iPad Pro model’s M4 chip boasts 1.5x faster CPU performance than the M2 chip, thanks to its more robust cores and new machine learning accelerators.
Using a new Tandem OLED technology, the Ultra Retina XDR 11″ and 13″ screens will deliver brightness levels of up to 1600 nits for HDR content! This translates into a far improved display with brilliant colours that will make everything look stunning, says Apple.
And if that wasn’t enough, they introduced nano-texture glass for the first time on an iPad, which reduces glare without sacrificing details. This feature will only be available as an option on the 1TB and 2TB models, with Apple finally removing the lower-end 128GB option. Entry-level now means a 256GB capacity starting point!
Accessories
Along with the new M4 iPads, the Apple Pencil was upgraded to Pro status—it’s not just a stylus anymore. The Apple Pencil Pro has a new squeeze sensor that brings up a tool palette, making it super intuitive to switch between tools and colours without interrupting your creative thinking.
There’s also a custom haptic engine that gives you feedback as you use it, adding to the overall fluidity of the experience. Plus, with the Apple Pencil hover feature, you can see the tool’s orientation before making contact with the screen.
Both tablets will continue to support the standard Apple Pencil (USB-C) as well as the Pencil Pro.
Apple also announced a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro. Its refined, thinner, and lighter design makes it more portable than the previous version. The signature floating cantilever design returns, giving the keyboard a sleek look while providing the flexibility of multiple viewing angles.
This updated version also incorporates a function row, making accessing essential controls like screen brightness and volume easy. A larger, more responsive trackpad with haptic feedback allows for precise navigation, and the beautifully crafted aluminium palm rest elevates comfort and style. The keyboard attaches magnetically and connects instantly via the Smart Connector, offering seamless data transfer and power delivery without the need for Bluetooth pairing.
All these features packed into such a lightweight and thin package make the new iPad Pro a powerful tool for travelling creatives and professionals.
