Pilot by Waverly Labs
It has been a long time since a bit of tech has come along and made a big impact, but Pilot is about to do just that. Say goodbye to language barriers. This is the future, now!
The Pilot from Waverly Labs has taken technology that is already in use, and made it wearable. Giving the world it’s first ear piece language translator. Currently seeking funding on indiegogo the Pilot aims to change how people travel the world by empowering them to communicate, regardless of language.
Using dual noise cancelling microphones to reduce background noise, the ear piece can then focus on the person talking to you. This is then passed to the app where the software applies speech recognition to what has been said, translates it into your own language and plays it back into the ear piece. This is instantaneous! If 2 people have an ear piece each you can have a full conversation in your own language without delay.
They have a demo video up on youtube demonstrating the use and speed of the device. However that is just the start of what this product can do. It has a conference mode for multiple device support, the app can make your phone a loud speaker for what is being said. The app also has an offline mode to be used as a basic translator.
While it is up on indiegogo it will come with an extra earpiece so you can use them to listen to music. They also include 3 different sized ear tips to ensure the perfect fit along with a portable charger.
At launch, which is expected to be May 2017, there will be 5 languages supported:
- English
- Spanish
- French
- Italian
- Portuguese
Then from summer 2017 they will begin to add more. If you are as excited as us about this you can currently back them for $199 on indiegogo which is 33% off retail price when they are released next year.

Personalised Luggage
Recently we covered the Lug Loc device for finding your case when the airline decides to ship it elsewhere, but what if it makes it to your destination but your suitcase blends in with all the others on the carousel? What if that bit of ribbon around the handle doesn’t stand out!
Well personalisedluggage.com has the answer by allowing you to design your own back or business pack and small/medium/large suitcases. There is even a kids range.
The clever online builder tool allows you to upload from your computer, facebook and instagram. You can then add additional text or apply filters over your image for different effects. The cases are hard shell, 4 wheel spinners with telescopic handle and zip locks.
Prices start from £75 for the backpack and go up to £150 for the large case. Shipping costs and lead times do vary and worth checking out before purchase. If these catch on waiting for luggage could become and slightly more enjoyable experience!
