CES 2024 is the world’s tech fairground, the place where cutting-edge tech meets business, and global innovators show us what the future looks like. Organised by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it’s that one event where you can get the full tech experience under one roof.
CES 2024
The Consumer Electronics Show, now known simply as CES, is an annual festivity of innovation and technological marvels and has been a cornerstone in the evolution of consumer technology since its inception in 1967. And it’s timeline is dotted with milestones: the VCR in 1970, the CD player in 1981, HDTV in 1998, and more recently, the advent of 3D printers and smart home gadgets.
In the early 2000s, CES introduced us to the first inklings of Wi-Fi-enabled devices, paving the way for today’s seamless connectivity, no matter where your journey takes you. Fast forward to the recent past, and you’ll see CES showcasing the latest in wearable tech, smart luggage, and even AI-driven personal travel assistants.
Like many other events of this size, CES had to ride out the COVID pandemic, and while the 2023 event was the first full-strength conference since 2020, it still needed a few big names. However, 300 of the Fortune 500 companies were in attendance.
Yet, over 115,000 attendees returned in almost pre-pandemic numbers, demonstrating the need for in-person tech events is still there and vital for the industry. From the heart of Las Vegas, CES has been a global stage where pioneers and visionaries converge to unveil these groundbreaking advancements.
What to Expect
There will be four letters attendees at CES 2024 will hear throughout the week: A.I. and E.V!
2023 witnessed a remarkable surge in the realm of artificial intelligence with sites such as Chat GPT and a multitude of other very clever and powerful A.I.-powered web apps. All of which are quickly transforming and touching every corner of our digital worlds.
I had the privilege of being in Austin this October for Lenovo Tech World, diving into its A.I. innovations and was treated to a glimpse of how it aims to weave this new technology into its extensive consumer hardware lineup.
Lenovo Tech World was merely a prologue. At CES 2024, I anticipate that a sweeping array of new releases will not just feature A.I. but will be defined by it, with brands eager to showcase how they will apply A.I. to their upcoming products.
Electric Vehicles
We’ve known for some time that the future of personal transportation will be electric. If, like me, you believe a car should come with a V8 as standard and anything more is a bonus, this future is bittersweet.
As the build-up to CES 2024 grows, the media announcements and invites have filled my inbox for several weeks. Electric vehicles come a very close second to the A.I. announcements, but their variety has caught my attention.
Big Brands are Back
A quick scan through the exhibitor’s listings on the official app shows a return to full strength for CES, where the big names are concerned. Sony, Samsung (who always go big for these events), and Lenovo are all listed with show space and/or large booths. Panasonic, Siemens, and Sony have confirmed media events on Monday where we could get a sneak peek at hopefully some XM6 headphones or earbuds.
On X, Mashable is reporting a new A.I.-powered driving assistance in a collaboration between Microsoft and Tom Tom, and Lenovo is poised to launch new A.I.-powered laptops.
