News: Nomatic Messenger Bag

a group of objects on a table

The messenger style is not many people’s first choice of bag.  Most have poorly constructed straps, poor storage options, insufficient protection for laptops or notebooks and are often of a weak fabric construction; so they just slump to the floor when put down!

Nomatic have taken up the challenge to build a Messenger for the modern-day, but have gone beyond the expected and now have a bag that could be perfect for those overnight business trips!

NOMATIC Messenger Bag

Nearly two years after I previewed their duffel/backpack hybrid Travel Bag, Nomatic are back on Kickstarter with their newest bags.  The Laptop and Messenger, but the focus here is on the latter.

Features

The big draw for the Nomatic Messenger will be due to its unique strap design, with two very useful additions!  Firstly, the spring-loaded compression buckle in the centre of the strap allows for an easy adjustment to the length.  It can be operated with just one hand and locks firmly to maintain your desired wearable height of the bag, and remains even when heavy!

Which brings me to the second unique design point of the strap, and often the biggest failing of many messenger styled bags, the connection between strap and bag.  Nomatic have teamed up with Fidlock, a company who specialise in fasteners, to create the magnetic Fidlock®️ buckle for the Messenger.

The clever magnetic locking system connects the strap to the bag from any angle and can support any weight up to 60kg which is more than enough for what most would carry in a bag of this size!  The buckle has a near 360° rotation, with only one way to remove the strap should you wish to use it as a briefcase.

That’s not all the magnets thought!  Even the water bottle pocket has some in so it sits flush to the bag when not in use!  A very useful addition.

The Messenger has 4 main compartments; Front, Main, Top and Rear.  The front pouch has an RFID pocket for your debit/credit/travel cards, elasticated mesh pockets for cables and chargers along with a notebook section.

In the main area you will get a choice of how you want it configured, with each Messenger coming with two different interchangeable panels.  One is a slim line organiser panel bringing additional mesh pockets and a document holder.  The other is a compartments panel and makes better use of the storage area within the bag.  You can adjust each wall to the size you need depending on what you have to carry!

There is also a retractable key leash and sunglasses holder in the main area!

At the top of the Messenger is a quick access pocket for any valuables or items you need to keep close to hand.  To the Rear is the Laptop and tablet sleeves.  This section opens fully, allowing you easy access to your devices when you need to remove them.

Finally there are cable pass thru holes inside the bag so you can carry a power bank within, and present the power cord to the quick access pocket at the top of the bag.  The print on the front of the Messenger is reflective at night for safety, and there is an integrated suitcase strap on the rear.

Specifications

With some very unique and useful features, paired with a good-sized internal storage area which is customisable, the Nomatic Messenger has plenty of potential.  From an overnight business trip, a camera bag, or even a baby bag for a young family, there really are many differnt uses!

Price

At the time of writing the Messenger is $169 on Kickstarter with the next round rising to $189, with shipping & delivery is currently planned for August 2018.

The laptop bag is currently $109.
