With enhanced connectivity and louder alerts, the Apple AirTag 2 makes locating lost items even easier using Apple’s Find My network.

Apple AirTag 2
It has been a long time coming, and now Apple has announced the Apple AirTag 2, its first major upgrade to its bestselling item tracker since it launched in 2021.
With a louder speaker, improved Bluetooth range, and an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip, AirTag 2 aims to make it even easier to track down lost items using Apple’s Find My network.
The original AirTag, whilst not the first tracker on the market, certainly set the sector alight, generating a whole new accessories market, pushing other brands to make trackers and join the Apple Find My network.

Features Apple AirTag 2
The updates are all internal as the circular, swollen disc shape remains; however, the enhancements are significant. Most notably, a 50% louder alert tone and Precision Finding support for Apple Watch users.
Precision Finding, already popular on iPhone, now works directly from the wrist on Apple Watch (Series 9 onwards), making it easier to find a forgotten backpack or carry-on.
The new AirTag 2 features Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, the same one powering the latest iPhone 17 and Apple Watch Ultra 3.
That means stronger directional tracking with haptic and audio cues from up to 50% farther away than before. A refreshed Bluetooth chip also extends the general tracking range, helping you locate items even if they’re hiding in the next room.
Other improvements include support for Apple’s Share Item Location feature, which is now backed by more than 50 airline partners, including United.
This lets travellers temporarily share a missing item’s location with an airline’s customer service, helping them assist in recovering delayed luggage.

Thanks to a redesigned internal layout, the speaker can now be heard twice as far. Combined with a new chime and upgraded Precision Finding, it’s built to help you retrieve everything from car keys to carry-ons, even in noisy spaces.
Soon after the original AirTag launched, people began using them to track others without their knowledge, so security and privacy remain central concerns.
The AirTag 2 doesn’t store location history, uses rotating Bluetooth IDs, and encrypts all location data end-to-end. It also includes cross-platform tracking alerts, reinforcing Apple’s stance that AirTags are for tracking objects, not people or pets.
AirTag has helped reunite people with their most important belongings, and the new generation makes that even faster, easier, and more secure,
Apple
For travellers, the Apple AirTag 2 is a small but significant update. Between better wrist integration, louder alerts, and airline partnerships, it makes keeping tabs on your tech, bags, or gear just that bit more reassuring on the road.
And the best news… all your current straps, cases, and accessories for AirTag will work with AirTag 2, since the dimensions remain the same!
