Apple Strengthens Tablet Line Up
Just a week before their first event of 2019, Apple took down its online store for a short period today, before returning with 2 new iPad models. A second outing for the Air and a welcome update to the Mini.
The new devices sit between the high-end iPad Pro and the entry-level iPad which was launched this time last year.
Apple iPad Air (2019)
Apple has resurrected the iPad Air range after discontinuing it a couple of years back. The new slim 10.5″ True Tone Retina display model is not the thinnest, at 6.1mm, it’s 0.2mm thicker than the smaller iPad Pro, but earns its title thanks to weighing in at just 456g.
The introduction of the A12 Bionic chip, the same processor as the iPhone XS, helps bring the 1st Gen Apple Pencil to the Air. There is Touch ID for security, up to 256GB Storage and around 10 hours of battery life with moderate usage.
- Dimensions – 9.8 x 6.8 x 0.24 inches
- Weight – WIFI 456g / WIFI + Cell 464g
- Colour Options – Silver/Space Grey/Gold
- Storage – 64 or 256GB
- 8MP Main Rear Camera
With nearly all of its specs sitting firmly between the iPad and Pro models, it is no surprise the price does too!
The Apple iPad Air is available now for Pre-order starting from £479/$499.
Apple iPad Mini 2019
It took some time, but I do understand the affection many hold towards the smallest of the iPad range, the Mini. I just wish it had the smallest price tag to match! But there is plenty to be excited about!
Apple has managed to pack the same new specs found in the Air into the much smaller Mini. The 7.9″ True Tone Retina display is also powered by the A12 chip, has Apple Pencil support and boasts the highest pixel density of any iPad to date.
- Dimensions – 8 x 5.3 x 0.24 inches
- Weight – WIFI 300.5g / WIFI+Cell 308.2g
- Colour Options – Silver/Space Grey/Gold
- Storage – 64 or 256GB
- Up to 10 Hours Battery life
The Apple iPad Mini is available for Pre-order starting at £399/$399. Both models will begin shipping during the week starting the 24th March.
