The PLANCK SSD is now available! This ultra-compact, high-speed storage solution offers up to 2TB, 1,050MB/s speeds, and iPhone 4K ProRes recording support.

In January 2025, I introduced the Planck SSD, a groundbreaking storage solution unveiled at CES 2025.

Designed by ShiftCam, the Planck SSD promised to revolutionize portable storage for content creators and tech enthusiasts with its compact size, impressive speed, and robust build. It even won one of my Editor’s Choice Awards.

Now, the device has officially launched and is available for purchase.

The Planck SSD is the world’s smallest phone-first solid-state drive, weighing just 10 grams and smaller than a credit card. Despite its compact form, it delivers impressive performance. Equipped with an NVMe chip, the SSD offers read and write speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s, enabling rapid data transfers and seamless 4K video recording. Users can transfer 200GB of data in just a few minutes.

Designed for versatility, the Planck SSD features a universal USB-C connection, making it compatible with smartphones, cameras, laptops, and gaming consoles.

For iPhone users—especially those with the iPhone 15 Pro and later—the SSD supports real-time ProRes 4K recording at 60/120 fps, making it a valuable tool for professional videographers.

Another key feature is its durability. The SSD is shockproof and capable of withstanding drops from up to three meters. It also has an IP65 water-resistance rating, protecting against dust and splashes.

The device includes an advanced thermal design with built-in heat sinks to maintain peak performance.

Alongside the SSD, the PlanckBank USB-C hub has also been announced, which is designed to complement the SSD’s functionality. The hub lets users connect two Planck SSDs simultaneously, expanding storage and workflow efficiency. It also includes a 4K HDMI output for real-time content review at 60Hz—ideal for live editing.

The PlanckBank supports Power Delivery (PD) charging up to 140W, which can power smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Equipped with USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, it achieves up to 10Gbps (1,050 MB/s) transfer speeds, ensuring fast file transfers.

The Planck SSD has two storage capacities: 1TB and 2TB. Early-bird pricing is set at $125/£100 for the 1TB model and $199/£158 for the 2TB model, with retail prices expected to rise to $189 and $299, respectively.

The PlanckBank USB-C hub is priced separately at around $70 during the launch phase. Shipping is projected to begin in May 2025.
