Hopefully, if you’re a family that’s about to be moving out of lockdown measures, you might be concerned about the lack of physical activity your kid/s have had recently. If you’re starting to venture out or getaway for a stay-cation or vacation, then the new Fitbit Ace 3 activity tracker for kids could be a good idea!
Fitbit Ace 3 Activity Tracker for Kids
Estimated reading time: 6 minutes
Giving a child an activity tracker is a great way to motivate them to be a little more active, learn about timekeeping and sleep patterns competitive. It’s a perfect solution to having some time away from screens whilst still using a “gadget”.
Kids activity trackers also add a little competition and fun to a family holiday.
And I can personally vouch for this as both my kids are currently using the Ace 2, and that little wearable has done more for their physical and mental fitness during the UK Lockdowns than I could ever have hoped for.
Features
Usually, I would begin by saying “sadly, there’s not much change” but with the Ace, that’s really not a bad thing. The device, screen and software were all perfectly tailored for young children, and the Ace 3 is aimed at the ages of 6+.
The notable changes are in the design and improved battery life and it appears one is a result of the other. With a bigger internal battery promising up to 8 days between charges, the device itself is slightly bigger. But not by much.

Fitbit has increased the number of watch face options to give kids more variety in making the new Ace 3 their own and, for the first time, there are animated faces to choose from. And, there will be special edition options at a later date as Fitbit join forces with Universal for two Minion inspired devices.
Activity Tracking
Ace 3 continues where its predecessor left off in being more of a motivational and fun device for kids to wear, helping them to get and stay active rather than bringing pressure to do so. Fitbit wants the Ace 3 to be about creating healthy habits for children.
Unlike adult models that can track almost every part of our lives, and pay for our groceries, the Ace 3 focuses on regular movement through the step counter and bedtime patterns with the sleep tracker. Silent alarms can also be set up that give a small vibration on the wrist and remind kids it’s time for certain activities or tasks.
As the display is sufficient enough to give your child the information they need at the time, the true power behind the Fitbit Ace 3 is the app (Android | Apple).
There’s no change to the app, but if you’re unfamiliar with it the Fitbit app can monitor multiple devices. This means your children can each have a Fitbit Ace 3 and not need a smartphone. When in range, the Ace 3 and the smartphone communicate and update their progress.
However, Fitbit has taken it a step further and added a child-friendly filter into the app which you can activate and then let your child view their progress. If other friends or family members own Fitbit’s the app allows for friendly challenges and linking of account stats, but only with parent acceptance.

For older children that own a smartphone, they can link the Fitbit Ace 3 activity tracker to that and receive call and message notifications straight to their wrist.
Travel-Proof for Kids
Teaching young children how to live a more active lifestyle is one thing, but being able to survive that lifestyle is another and kids can often test gadgets to their limits.
The straps are made from a durable wipe clean silicone band that’s soft to the touch but really is strong and ages very well. If by chance, it is damaged they are replaceable.
And for those who enjoy swimming, the Fitbit Ace 3 activity tracker is water-resistant to 50 metres which is more than suitable for most children over the age of 6.

Tom Says…
The Ace 2 has proven to be an excellent wearable for my kids and if Fitbit has given just a little boost in the battery compartment, then the Ace 3 will probably remain the premium kid’s activity tracker this summer. I wish adult wearables had batteries that performed as well and as consistent as the Ace.
They make staying healthy fun and encourage movement and add a level of fun and competition to a family trip. The app is at the centre of all this and is the perfect platform for adults and children to monitor progress and compete with family members, safely.
