Lufthansa Wi-Fi goes supersonic with Starlink

Lufthansa Group is teaming up with Starlink to bring fast, satellite-powered Wi-Fi to its entire fleet, covering around 850 aircraft across all group airlines. The rollout begins in 2026, with full coverage expected by 2029.

Unlike most airline internet services, which rely on outdated satellites or ground-based systems, Starlink uses low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to deliver broadband-level speeds with lower latency.

That means streaming, video calls, and cloud-based work without the usual mid-flight frustration.

The upgrade will span all Lufthansa Group airlines, including SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Discover. Travellers in every cabin will benefit, with status customers and Travel ID users receiving free access.

Starlink’s real-time satellite switching helps eliminate coverage gaps and improve consistency, which is key for long-haul and cross-regional routes.

In our anniversary year, we’ve decided to introduce a new high-speed internet solution from Starlink for all our airlines… with Starlink, we are not only investing in the best product on the market, but also in the satisfaction of our passengers

It’s a clear step up from the pay-per-use, low-speed services that still dominate elsewhere in the skies, and frankly, are rubbish once you’ve experienced a Starlink-equipped flight.

For travellers, this rollout brings Wi-Fi that actually works; fast, stable, and free, across every Lufthansa Group flight.
