OpenRock Link 20 Earbuds

After capturing attention with its outdoor-focused S2 Open Earbuds, OpenRock has returned with a product designed for both daily life and business.

The newly launched OpenRock Link 20 Earbuds continue the company’s commitment to open-ear design but add a professional twist, a detachable magnetic boom mic that could make them the ultimate travel companion for remote workers.

Following my recent review of the S2 Earbuds, the Link 20 suggests that OpenRock is shifting its focus from adventure to communication.

Features OpenRock Link 20 Earbuds

Now live on Kickstarter, the OpenRock Link 20 Earbuds are positioning themselves as a communication headset that doesn’t compromise comfort or awareness. OpenRock says the new model has been designed to “merge professional-grade communication with everyday lifestyle convenience”, and that focus on flexibility is immediately apparent.

Each earbud weighs only 9g, keeping them light enough for all-day wear while maintaining the open-ear form that avoids ear fatigue and lets users stay aware of their surroundings.

But it’s the detachable magnetic boom microphone that truly sets the Link 20 apart.

OpenRock calls it the first communication headset of its kind to feature a magnetic, interchangeable boom mic that can be attached to either ear. By allowing the mic to switch sides, users can avoid the discomfort that builds from keeping a boom fixed on one side for hours. The mic snaps into place using strong N54 magnets and a six-layer alloy plating system, giving it enough durability to survive more than 10,000 attach-detach cycles.

OpenRock has built a five-microphone array with AI noise cancellation, claiming a 99.9 % reduction in background noise, roughly 58dB of filtering. That means the Link 20 Earbuds should handle the kind of chaotic environments most travel workers know too well, from echoing airport terminals to busy cafés.

The AI algorithm automatically isolates speech from ambient sound, which should translate to clear, natural voice pickup even outdoors.

Connectivity is handled by the latest Bluetooth 6.0 to ensure stability, but also enables simultaneous pairing with two devices, a feature that makes sense for anyone who regularly swaps between laptop calls and phone audio.

OpenRock lists the wireless range at up to 50 ft indoors and almost double that outdoors, giving plenty of freedom to move around without losing signal.

Battery life is impressive. Without the boom mic attached, the Link 20 delivers up to 13 hours of continuous music playback and around 9 hours of talk time. When stored in the charging case, those figures extend to 52 hours of listening or 36 hours of talking. OpenRock has also introduced a five-minute quick-charge mode, providing an extra hour of emergency talk time.

Link 20 maintains OpenRocks’ focus on comfort, featuring a 6.9-degree ergonomic tilt, liquid silicone materials, and a three-point pressure distribution structure that allows the earbuds to rest securely without sealing the ear canal.

Beyond hardware, OpenRock has built software support into the experience through the OpenRock app, which allows users to customise EQ settings, switch between work and leisure sound profiles, and even locate misplaced earbuds using a built-in “Find My Buds” tracker.
