On August 10th, during its second Unpacked of 2022, the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 & Watch5 Pro were announced with new customizations, health monitors and even a Pro version for those with a more active lifestyle.

If you were hoping for a significant upgrade from the Galaxy Watch4, then the new Watch5 may well disappoint as aesthetically, they are almost identical.
But to hide this fact, Samsung has given us a Pro model.
Regardless, the Watch5 series remains an excellent-looking smartwatch and has undergone internal upgrades such as the battery and new sensors.
Watch5 will come with all the features expected of a Smartwatch, yet Samsung wants us to focus on the health benefits of owning its latest wearable.

To distract us from the fact that little has changed on the outside from Watch4 to Watch5, Samsung has introduced a Pro model, which comes with a bigger display!
The Watch5 will come with a 40mm or 44mm Super AMOLED display and the Pro with a 45mm display, and both are now made with a new premium Sapphire Crystal panel for better scratch resistance.
Keeping the display safe, the Watch5 uses the same Armor Aluminium material as Watch4, whereas the Pro is made from Titanium. Both versions have new colour options and a 4G LTE model.
One welcome upgrade for travellers will be the much-improved battery life. While Watch5 has a slightly larger 284mAh fixed battery, Samsung is still committing to around 40 hours of use, the same as Watch4!
Meanwhile, on the Watch5 Pro, Samsung has fitted a much bigger 590mAh battery resulting in up to 80 hours of power. Both models will now benefit from Fast-Charging with just a 30-minute charge from 0 up to 45% charge.
Through the advanced BioActive Sensor, users can better understand their overall health and wellness through a single chip that efficiently combines three health sensors. Simply put on the watch — ensuring the sensor is touching the skin of your wrist.

Health & Wellness
After the Covid years, Samsung believes all of us are more tuned in to our wellbeing, and where Watch4 focussed on fitness, Watch5 takes all of those features and adds them to a more health-focused view.
The Watch5 series comprises eight different sensors, all combined to provide the wearer with “a more holistic picture of your body with key measurements that go beyond your weight, including skeletal muscle and basal metabolic rate”, says Samsung.
Improved sleep tracking via the Samsung Health app will be possible, as well as heart rate, blood oxygen and body fat monitoring and a sensor that monitors the amount you sweat.
All this data is combined to give you a more holistic view of your overall health and well-being.
