Samsung Unpacked August 2020
On the 5th August Samsung held its first all virtual Unpacked event from Korea, due to the current global COVID pandemic. On the day Samsung announced five new devices all with some impressive specifications, including the much improved Galaxy Z Fold2.
The other devices announced at Unpacked were:
Galaxy Z Fold2 Overview
It’s been over a year since Samsung released the first Galaxy Z Fold device, a large smartphone that folds out into a tablet. More recently Samsung added the smaller Z Flip to its foldable selection before now updating its original.
The great news is Samsung has focused on the smartphone experience on the Fold2. On the front is now an edge to edge 6.2″ display which is up considerably from the 4.6″ on the original.

For any foldable device to really be a success, it will need to remain thin when closed. The Galaxy Z Fold2 is around 17mm. As a reference, the Galaxy S20, with the same 6.2″ display size is 7.9mm thick.
After releasing two foldable devices and listening to user feedback on the most requested upgrades and new features, Samsung unveils the Galaxy Z Fold2 with meaningful innovations that offer users enhanced refinements and unique foldable user experiences.

Evolution not Revolution
Taking on customer feedback is always a good starting point for making users happy.
Samsung addressed the smartphone experience with the larger front display mentioned above. But it also focused on the bigger tablet screen with a new 7.6″ Infinity O-Display with 120Hz technology.
Internally, the hinge and chassis have been re-engineered and strengthened for much better use and stability in tablet mode. This has resulted in a smaller gap when folded.
Powered by Android 10 the full list of specifications for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 was announced at a separate Unpacked event held on 1st September.

Once again Samsung has teamed up with Thom Browne, the New York fashion house, for a special edition.
