RIMOWA Hammerschlag Limited Edition

The new RIMOWA Hammerschlag Limited Edition collection really pops with a vintage yet modern vibe thanks to a unique hammered texture on the aluminium case that is replacing its iconic grooved case surface.

The whole collection, which consists of the Cabin Case and the Hand-Carry, is inspired by a 1966 Hand-Carry Case of a similar design. It was nicknamed “Hammerschlag,” which, when translated from German to English, means ‘hammer hit’ and probably best describes this limited edition’s surface.

To mark the launch of the Hammerschlag Limited Edition collection, RIMOWA has teamed up with Nils Frahm, blending the rhythmic essence of his music with the craftsmanship of the cases!

What’s exceptional about this revival is how well the blend of old styling and new features works together.

The Hammerschlag Cabin and the Hand-Carry Case feature a vintage hammered outer case with modern tweaks. RIMOWA has added a stage-free telescopic handle to the Cabin, which is finished with an ergonomic leather handle and the RIMOWA Multiwheel® System. The original 1966 Hand-Carry case only featured a metal handle!

Plus, both pieces now have TSA-approved locks, which weren’t a thing back in ’66.

The RIMOWA Hammerschlag Cabin Case is ideal for 3 to 4 days of travel, and the interior is cleverly designed for efficient organization. It includes a nylon twill lining with a leather-zipped compartment on its divider and vintage hooks with compression straps to secure items in place.

Limited Edition

Each suitcase in this limited edition series is individually numbered from 0001 to 1898, emphasizing its exclusivity. 1898 was chosen as it represents the year RIMOWA was founded in Cologne, Germany. Each case includes a luggage tag made of cognac leather with an 1898 stamp, paying homage to RIMOWA’s storied heritage.

Weighing 4.7 kg and measuring in at ‘an overhead bin-friendly’ 54 x 39 x 23 cm, this 31L limited edition Cabin case promises to combine historical elegance with modern-day travel conveniences.

The RIMOWA Hammerschlag Limited Edition Collection is available now at The Hand-Carry is $2,360, and the Cabin Case is $2,850.
