This view overlooking part of Matera appears to be of an empty ancient town! Yet amazingly it is still inhabited. From the angle the photo was taken, it appears the whole town was just carved out of the rock face.

It really does look like an empty town!
It does, and from afar it draws you in, making you want to look further into it! Very unlike the towns and cities most of us have become used too!
