Tim Cook announced the Apple Watch Series 10 on Monday, September 9, at the Glowtime event alongside the new iPhone 16 Series and AirPods 4.
Apple Watch Series 10
As a round-numbered birthday, rumours about what Apple Watch Series 10 would look like have been circulating online since the day Series 9 was released.
However, Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 encountered some headwinds with their new SpO2 feature, which was removed from both models sold after January 18, 2024.
Unsurprisingly, this feature was not mentioned during the Watch 10 launch as Apple continues to resolve the matter. However, it has packed enough new tech into its latest wearable to justify an upgrade!
Features Apple Watch Series 10
Expectations that the Apple Watch Series 10 would have a radical new look appear to have been somewhat correct, as it has the thinnest design yet—nearly 10% thinner than its predecessors. However, the good news —no excellent news—is that all previous straps will work with the relevant models!
The 41mm and 45mm sizes of the Series 9 have now been replaced with 42mm and 46mm case sizes on the Series 10.
Thanks to this modest increase, the Apple Watch Series 10 boasts the largest and most advanced display of any model to date, with up to 40% more brightness when viewed from an angle thanks to its wide-angle OLED technology.
This innovation optimizes pixel light emission and enhances efficiency, particularly in always-on mode. The new watch faces, including Flux and Reflections, take full advantage of these display improvements, offering users more vibrant and dynamic visuals.
The new S10 SiP and its 4-core Neural Engine power advanced functionality, enabling new features like on-device Siri, intelligent workout detection, and double-tap gestures.
Apple Watch Series 10 also features an upgraded accelerometer and gyroscope for improved fall detection and motion sensing. Additionally, the Series 10 supports dual-frequency GPS, delivering more accurate route tracking for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, and is compatible with Bluetooth 5.3, offering faster data transfers and enhanced connectivity.
This while still packing all the features users love, like all-day battery life and faster charging, and an upgraded built-in loudspeaker that delivers clearer audio for phone calls, Siri interactions, and media playback, offering improved sound quality in various environments. This enhancement supports the new on-device Siri, ensuring faster responses and a better user experience.
The Apple Watch Series 10 introduces a new Sleep Apnea Detection feature (pending FDA clearance). This feature uses advanced sensors to monitor respiratory patterns and identify potential disruptions in breathing during sleep. This early detection system helps users become aware of sleep-related issues and may encourage further medical investigation for better health management.
Divers and Watersports enthusiasts will appreciate the new depth and temperature sensing features, making the Series 10 a perfect companion for aquatic activities.
The watch can measure depths of up to 6 meters and now offers a Tides app that provides comprehensive tidal data, making it easier to stay aware of changing water conditions. The design is rounded off with new polished titanium and aluminium finishes.
