At #IFA2022, Jabra announced its new Elite 5 Earbuds. Packed with in-ear and external microphones, the new Jabra Elite 5 Earbuds will offer “goosebump-inducing, heart-racing, soaring sound” and high-quality video and hands-free calling.

Jabra Elite 5 Earbuds

I was fortunate enough to get some time with the new Elite 5 earbuds shortly after they were announced, albeit without using them (2 pairs for 100s of media).

Jabra is promoting the Elite 5 as a Mid-tier offering, sitting below its flagship Elite 7 Pro earbuds; except for the slightly shorter battery life in the new buds, I think the Elite 5 could be the better choice if you’re shopping around for in-ear buds.

Billed as Jabra’s “all-round hero”, the new Jabra Elite 5 Earbuds certainly tick many boxes users require in a pair of buds in 2022.

Jabra has a new Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling system powered by the Qualcomm QCC3050 Bluetooth chipset to deliver uninterrupted sound to the 6mm drivers. This is combined with three microphones on each bud which gather both in-ear feedback and external noise to provide a more consistent sound.

Call quality has been improved with the in-ear microphone being used in windy conditions so you can be heard over the wind moving over the outside of the buds, something many of us who take calls outside suffers from.

The Elite 5 earbud design is similar to the other models in the Jabra catalogue, and has been designed to sit in-ear and, depending on the size of your ear canal, should hardly protrude beyond your ear.

They’re made from a remarkably soft plastic which gives the impression they will be comfortable to wear for extended periods.

This is just as well as Jabra has given these a battery combination that can deliver 28 hours of music with ANC on and up to 36 hours with it off. The buds will hold 7 hours of power with the ANC on, slightly less than the Elite 7 Pro, but for the price difference, I’d lean more towards the newer model.

Charging is slated to take 3 hours with no fast charging option; however, the case can be charged by USB-C (cable provided) or on a Qi Wireless charging pad.
