With no real fan fare or press invites going viral of an upcoming launch event, it was a sure bet that 2018 was not going to see any major changes to the MacBook Pro range.

As it turned out, not even the full Pro range was upgraded this time around.  Instead, the top end Touch Bar models have been given some extra speed, power and storage.

Features

The press briefing points to developers and power users being the focus of these upgrades and with the highest specification 15″ model now costing an eye watering £6,200! Most standard Pro users will not be rushing out to swap out their current models.

The 8th Generation Intel Core processor is the major addition this time around with the quad-core for the 13″ and a 6-core for the 15″ model.  This, Apple claim, will increase power and speed by up to 70% on the previous Touch Bar models that were released back in 2016.

Next up is the display.

“With 500 nits of brightness and support for the P3 wide color gamut, the Retina display on MacBook Pro is the best Mac notebook display ever. Now with True Tone technology, the display and Touch Bar deliver a more natural viewing experience for design and editing workflows, as well as everyday tasks like browsing the web and writing email.” ~ Apple.

In an era of Cloud storage and, supposedly, lighting fast internet connections, some would argue that large capacity storage on devices could be a thing of the past.  However the 2018 MacBook Pro range can be boosted up to 2TB SSD for the 13″ and an impressive 4TB SSD on the 15″ model.
