Features RingConn Gen 2 Smart Ring Review

Gen 2 is a fully-fledged health companion with the ability to monitor sleep apnoea through advanced infrared and SpO₂ sensors. Breathing irregularities and oxygen dips are detected overnight without the use of external gear. Additionally, it is a fitness-tracking smart ring.

The Gen 2 Ring monitors heart rate, blood oxygen, body temperature, respiratory rate, and movement, all packed into a polished, minimalist form. RingConn claims that battery performance will vary from 10 to 12 days, depending on the selected ring size.

Design-wise, it’s a compact health tracker ring made of titanium alloy. The build feels premium, the design is undoubtedly meant to be stylish and modern rather than a health tracker on your finger, and the fit has been created to be comfortable enough to wear for weeks at a time. And with a Water resistance IP68 rating, it can be kept on even when swimming.

The companion app is the hub of the Gen 2 smart ring, and, as a hat tip to the designers, it’s a pleasure to use and easy to understand, allowing you to learn about your data and metrics. It provides sleep staging, readiness scoring, trends, and the ability to add manual notes, ideal for anyone tweaking training plans or managing recovery.

Health data syncing is fast and reliable. It works with both iOS and Android and exports data for anyone needing backups or professional analysis.

Unlike many other smart rings, the RingConn Gen 2 has no subscription fee. There is an optional RingConn Care+ option, which covers rings for accidental damage and other issues.

Hands-On RingConn Gen 2 Smart Ring Review

Setup begins before you receive the RingConn Gen 2 Smart Ring, as you’ll need to start with the sizing kit. It is free and should be selected at checkout on the Ringconn website. I test plenty of smart rings and devices, and sizes do vary, so don’t leave it to chance.

In total, there are nine sizes, ranging from 6 to 14, and four colour options: Future Silver, Royal Gold, Rose Gold, and Matte Black. The sizing kit even includes a sample of each colour to help you decide on the finish you’d prefer.

App

The accompanying app is compatible with Android and iOS devices as a free download. Once the app is downloaded to your device and you have set up an account, pairing via Bluetooth is straightforward and took me less than a minute.

As I started the RingConn Gen 2 Smart Ring Review, the device requested an over-the-air update to version 2.013. The update was brief and didn’t require the app to refresh or restart. Overall, the app is easy to navigate and set up.

The Insights tab serves as the primary gateway to your health data collected from the RingConn Gen 2 Smart Ring and can be customised to display the information you want most prominently at the top of the screen. For the review, I chose to try out the Body and Mind Balance Plan. I answered questions about sleep, stress, and exercise, and the app curated a set of metrics for me to achieve each day, centred around my exercise and sleep patterns. RingConn has much more to come for its app, with visible placeholders for an upcoming Sleep Improvement plan and possibly an AI-powered Health Partner to answer questions and provide tailored feedback on your stats.

Power Performance

The press release stated that the device offers 10-12 days of battery life between charges. From a full charge, I managed 10 days straight during the RingConn Gen 2 Smart Ring review. This performance is outstanding, nearly double that of many competitors.

Although the average battery life is around 12 days, my frequent use of the app, multiple times a day during my review, forced the ring to sync more often. For most trips, I’d leave the charging case behind, as a fully charged Gen 2 Ring will see me through. The case itself is larger than most earbud cases, which is to be expected, and fully charged my review unit from flat to 100% in 80 minutes.

After I finished my initial review, I managed to achieve 11 days with full sleep and activity tracking switched on, and I only opened the app around once a day, if that.

So the battery does hold up whilst collecting so many data points!

Health Data

The Gen 2 RingConn smart ring captures a considerable amount of health data throughout the day and night, presenting it in the app as a running 7-day average. It focuses on, as most fitness trackers do, sleep, Stress, Activity and vital signs.

Each of the four core components can then be opened up for a more detailed view of the subcomponents that make up your overall score. And it does get detailed.

The Gen 2 even provided me with a report on my skin temperature while I sleep! The Sleep Apnea Monitor is a separate feature outside of he main trends yet is equally easy to use.

Once it has been set to start, as it doesn’t continually run like the other trends, the Sleep Apnea monitor runs over three sleep periods and presents the results in a colourful slider, but more importantly, explains the results in a way that’s easy to understand rather than just medical jargon.

Design

For the RingConn Gen 2 Smart Ring Review, I tested the Matte Black colourway. With the other three options being a bit more polished and shiny, the matte black provides a more understated appearance and works well, whether you are dressed up or casual.

The downside of the Matte Black colour is that it can show scratches more prominently than the others, so the review provided a good opportunity to test the ring’s durability.

I used the Gen 2 for five weeks, only taking it off to charge. It accompanied me during daily activities and gym sessions, including weight training and swimming, yet it still looks brand new. The photos in this article were taken at the end of the review!

As someone who doesn’t usually wear jewellery, I took to the Gen 2 more than I expected. I wear a smartwatch primarily to track my health and for the convenience of travel. As a Londoner, having the Express Travel Card on my Apple Watch makes using public transport simple. Unfortunately, this means I can’t wear an analogue watch.

The Ringconn Gen 2 offers a solution by combining functionality with design. While it doesn’t allow for purchases, it provides valuable health data and remains unobtrusive in my daily life, allowing me to enjoy my watch collection. Plus, wearing the Gen 2 with any smartwatch is not a problem.

Final Thoughts RingConn Gen 2 Smart Ring Review

The Ringconn Gen 2 is not specifically designed for travel, but it is well-suited for it.

For travellers who prioritise their health, the Gen 2 is an excellent solution for maintaining wellness while away from home. You can feel confident leaving your charger behind for short trips, as the battery life of this small device, packed with so many sensors, is truly remarkable.

Those sensors, paired with the intuitive app, provide practical insights into your health, whether you’re busy at work, asleep, or having fun. It’s easy for frequent long-haul travellers to overlook their well-being, but it’s important to stay mindful of it.

Your health matters, and keeping track of it with the help of the RingConn Gen 2 can make all the difference.
