The bustling city of Berlin, Germany, is once again gearing up to host one of the most anticipated and influential consumer electronics and technology events – the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, more commonly known as IFA 2023.
Tech enthusiasts, industry professionals, and, unlike many other technology conferences, public members are preparing to converge upon Berlin to catch the latest innovations poised to shape our digital landscape.
IFA has long established itself as one of the biggest global platforms for technological breakthroughs, unveiling cutting-edge products across diverse categories, not just travel tech.
From smartphones that redefine communication to smart home appliances and entertainment systems that provide immersive experiences – IFA is a stage where the industry’s most prominent players and emerging startups showcase their visions of the future.
The 2022 IFA Event felt like it was almost back to total capacity as the world was getting back on its feet after the Covid pandemic. IFA, and its hosts, did their best during the early stages of the global health crisis and managed to stage a very scaled-back press-only event in 2020, but were left with no choice but to cancel the 2021 showpiece.
With 130,000 square metres (1.4m square feet) of exhibition space spread across 26 halls, IFAIFA
Berlin 2023 is not only larger than last year, but also offers visitors more experiences than ever
What to Expect
With sustainability, A.I. and health being the current tech buzzwords, I anticipate any new releases in the travel tech space to feature one or more of these.
A.I. will undoubtedly be at the forefront of any cutting-edge new tech, with sites like Chat GPT and Midjourney bringing this tech to the masses. These platforms exemplify the capacity and ingenuity inherent in A.I., allowing users to witness firsthand the transformative potential they offer.
Some big names have had recent releases, and they’ll show off all the new devices, such as the Fold smartphones from Samsung.
Where & When
IFA is returning to Messe Berlin for 2023. The prominent and expansive exhibition and trade fair centre is located in the west of Berlin city centre. Built around the iconic 150m high Funkturm, more commonly known as the “Berlin Radio Tower”, the complex is a hub for business networking and showcasing innovations.
Some readers may recognise the name as ITB Berlin, a leading travel trade show, is regularly held at the same location earlier in the year.
As usual, a couple of press-only days precede the event, and this year will run on the 30th and 31st of August. Showstoppers, The Official Media Reception of IFA 2023, happens on the evening of the 31st.
The conference opens its doors on September 1st and runs until the 5th.
IFA 2023 differs from other technology conferences because it is open to the public, not just the media. General admission tickets are on sale now, direct from the IFA website, for €22 for a 5-day pass.
