As winter takes a hold here in the UK and Europe, I welcome a very timely addition to the site from Jamaica!

IrieDiva.com is a lifestyle blog about Jamaican culture, beauty, fashion and food. It’s written by a woman who lives in the capital city of Kingston, Jamaica who loves to share the best the island has to offer, from a local’s perspective. Find her on all social media channels as @iriediva.

Fort Clarence Beach is a place of refuge for the many Kingston City dwellers that love the water. It’s only 15 minutes away from the city and as a Kingston resident myself, I’m so happy that it’s a quick trip away. It’s not one of the beaches that will come up when you search for beaches in Jamaica because it’s not on the north coast in Negril, Ocho Rios or Montego Bay, the popular tourist resort areas known to many Jamaican visitors. This beach is on the south coast. It’s where the locals go. Here you’ll find the average Jamaican, hanging out with their family. You’ll hear reggae music pumping out from one of several fish shops on the beach and be approached by people selling everything from delicious oysters, peppered shrimp, handcrafted sandals and cotton candy for the kids. It’s home to some of the best Fish and Festival prepared from snapper or lion fish caught a few minutes prior out at sea. If you’re a lobster-lover then the grilled or fried lobster, also caught fresh, will be a treat! If you’re ever in Kingston city and wondering if you’ll be able to dip your toes in the beautiful beaches of Jamaica you’ve heard about, take comfort in the fact that a beautiful beach, rich in island culture, is always close by.
