Mother’s Day Specials: A Modern Day Classic!

4

This year, why not ditch the flowers, chocolate and mildly humorous cards and instead treat your mum to something a bit special.

I have hand-picked some items that are sure to impress!

Amazon Kindle – Paperwhite E-Reader

Some would argue the Kindle is no longer a relevant device.  We have a multitude of different tablets now running Android or iOS for which Amazon has developed Kindle apps.  So if you have a more powerful and more functional tablet, why bother with a Kindle?

Well, there are still many people who will never leave print for this modern day technology, but those that do, stick to their Kindles!

The Paperwhite is the good all-rounder of the Kindle range, which starts with the Basic (£59) and goes up to the Oasis (£269).  The full line up below should help you choose which model would be the best fit, but for the extra money, you are not getting much more!

Amazons success with Kindle is due, in part, to the screen.  At 300ppi, the font is clear and crisp, giving near print quality on the Carta e-paper technology touchscreen display.

Next-generation reading experience

NEW – Kindle Paperwhite now offers Bookerly, an exclusive font crafted from the ground up for reading on digital screens. Warm and contemporary, Bookerly is inspired by the artistry of the best fonts in modern print books, but is hand-crafted for great readability at any font size.

NEW – All-new typesetting engine lays out words just as the author intended for beautiful rendering of pages. With improved character spacing and the addition of hyphenation, justification, kerning, ligatures, and drop cap support, our best-in-class typography helps you read faster with less eyestrain.

Enjoy reading with larger font sizes without compromising your reading experience. Page layout and margins automatically adapt to work well at even the largest font sizes. The new typography and layout improvements are available on over half a million books, including many best sellers, with thousands more being added every week.

Although the screen size is 1 inch less than an iPad Mini, the Kindle is 100g lighter and no thicker than a pen.  Which means, with the device able to store thousands of titles, and you would hardly notice you were carrying it around!

If you are an Amazon Prime member, or someone in your household is, then you will already have access to millions of titles via the Lending Library.

Prime members and adults in the same Amazon Household can borrow one book from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library each calendar month. You can deliver the book to compatible devices registered to your Amazon account. Available titles may change each calendar month.

Titles can be as low as £0.99 and are stored in your unlimited Amazon Cloud Storage.  So if your Kindle does run flat, or you do not have it with you, then you can still access it from any device running the app I mentioned earlier.  With a single charge lasting up to 6 weeks though, this will be unlikely!

The Wifi only Paperwhite is £109 and the Wifi + 3G is £169, but most would not use the 3G enough to justify the £60 price hike.  Both models come in Black or White and are available direct from Amazon.
