Soon enough, the world will start travelling again and with it will be an expectation of those fast and stable network speeds we’ve all become accustomed too whilst working from home. At #CES2021, Lenovo showed off its answer to this potential problem in the form of the new IdeaPad 5G.
Lenovo IdeaPad 5G
In the lead up to the all-digital CES, Lenovo launched the first mainstream 5G connected laptop, to usher in a new era of connectivity when on the move. This journey began last year when they used the same event to show off the rather special YOGA 5G.
With the rapid roll-out of 5G across the globe and the super-fast speeds it achieves, shifting to devices that support the new standard makes plenty of sense for travellers.
No longer do we need to rely on slow hotel Wi-Fi whilst paying a premium for it, or risking everything for a ‘free’ unsecured public network somewhere.
Features
The IdeaPad 5G has plenty of other stand out features to compliment the 5G connectivity. A large 14″ FHD display and 2 Dolby Audio™️ user-facing speakers will enhance your video streaming experience.
At a slim 14.9mm and weighing only 1.2kg the IdeaPad hasn’t had any corners cut. The Windows 10 powered laptop has 5 ports for peripherals including 2x USB-C and USB-A. There’s no ethernet port, sadly, but that is less of an issue when you’re connected to a 5G network.

Powered by Qualcomm
Lenovo has opted for a Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM SC8180XP processor to power the new IdeaPad. But didn’t stop there. Inside is a Qualcomm® Adreno™ 680 graphics card and the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X55 Modem-RF system providing the connectivity.
The Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 8cx 5G Compute Platform means the IdeaPad 5G delivers the same Always On, Always Accessible experience you would get on a smartphone or tablet.
Now we can have all the lightweight benefits of a smartphone on a laptop!
The fan system has been removed, reducing the operating noise down, keeping the device lighter in weight and thinner.
A Great Travel Companion
Despite all of this, Lenovo claims the IdeaPad 5G can deliver up to 20 hours of 1080p HD video playback from a single charge. This battery delivers!
Even if it could achieve half of that, most users will benefit from a full day’s work and get to leave the bulky power brick back in the hotel.
Even though the IdeaPad has been designed as “Always On” and connected to make the most of cloud storage and streaming, it still comes with a generous 256 or 512GB of storage.
