Discovering iOgrapher

Maybe, I’m behind the curve here, but this week I discovered iOgrapher a company that designs some brilliant tech to enhance your mobile filming.

The idea is simple.  Use your smartphone or tablet as a professional quality recording device.  iOgrapher have cases, lenses and other accessories to further enhance what your smartphone can already do!

You clip your phone into the case, attach a mic, lens or light and your good to go.

The modular design of the iOgrapher products means you can build your set up over time or jump straight in with a bundle.

Just think of having this set up on a gap year, small and light enough to stow away yet give you some great recordings.  Getting started on Youtube! Even for sites like this when visiting conferences or filming unboxing videos.

As an example the quick start bundle consists of:

  • iOgrapher Filmmaking Case for iPhone 6/6S
  • iOgrapher 37mm Wide Angle Lens
  • iOgrapher 37mm Telephoto Lens
  • Rode Video MICRO
  • Rode SC7 TRS TO TRRS ADAPTOR FOR IPHONE OR IPAD
  • Manfrotto LUMIMUSE 3 LED LIGHT

The beauty of iOgrapher is you already own the most expensive part of it, your phone/tablet!

Prices vary and all items can be purchased direct from the online store.  As much as I like the idea of it being modular and buying items as you need them, be warned, there are shipping costs from the US to the UK. The above bundle picks up $69 shipping!

I really hope we can get you some hands on reviews of this soon, as iOgrapher looks to be a game changer.

Blackberry Sweetens the Deal

Last week Blackberry released their latest Android powered handset, the Dtek50, which we previewed on the site.

The device is available for pre order on the Blackberry site priced at £275.  This is a great price for a solid handset in terms of features, loaded with the latest Android OS and both underpinned with the security of Blackberry.

Well on Friday Blackberry shared this tweet on their Twitter page:

The MP-12600 power charger retails at £55 on it’s own so bundled in with the Dtek50 makes a great deal.

Surely, any parent sending their kids off to University at the end of summer should be looking at this bundle. Good phone, great OS and a handy portable charger all at a very reasonable price!  The handset will begin shipping from 8th August.

Be Aware of Imitations

Here at Tech for Travel we are huge fans of new tech that often gets brought to the wider public via sites like Kickstarter or Indiegogo.  There really are some great projects, many of which we have covered on the site.

One of the early ones was the Flack Sack by Loctote which we previewed earlier in the year.  This week they brought it to the attention of their backers and followers of another company trying to copy their product.  Alarmingly, this company seem to have amassed 13k followers on Instagram and the images they use are a near carbon copy of the Loctote marketing images.

Ultimately, it is up to each of us where we spend our hard earned money, but if you do find yourself looking for a drawstring backpack, you cannot go wrong starting with Loctote!
